The Sun is our most abundant source of energy. A single hour of sunlight shining on the Earth can power the entire world for a year. The challenge has been to efficiently harness this ultimate source of clean, renewable energy and transform it into useful electrical energy.

Current state-of-the-art solar cell technology can only convert a fraction of the sunlight received into electricity. This makes solar power expensive compared to other sources of electricity and prevents solar from becoming a primary source of energy.

To be truly competitive, ways must be found to reduce costs to make solar power competitive with grid electricity (grid parity).

HyperSolar is developing a breakthrough technology to magnify the power of the Sun to significantly increase the power output of solar cells.

Based on innovative microphotonics and low cost manufacturing processes, HyperSolar is developing a thin, flat, optical layer that can inexpensively collect and deliver substantially more sunlight onto solar cells. This allows solar cells to produce multiple times more power.

With HyperSolar as the top layer, manufacturers can use significantly fewer solar cells in the production of solar panels, thereby dramatically reducing the cost per watt of electricity.
The solar market has been doubling every two years, due to growing demand for clean sources of electrical energy. This makes solar the world’s fastest growing energy technology, despite the fact that in most cases it is not cost-competitive with grid electricity and requires government subsidies.

Today, solar power supplies less than one percent of the global electricity demand with total panel installation of 15 billion watts (15 gigawatts). This amount is projected to increase to more than 1.8 trillion watts (1.8 terawatts) by 2030.

By providing solar manufacturers with a breakthrough technology to significantly reduce the cost per watt of electricity, HyperSolar will help solar become a primary source of clean, renewable energy to power the future needs of the world.
